5 Duke wrestlers selected to All-ACC Academic Team
Five members of the Duke wrestling team were selected to the sport’s 2015 All-ACC Academic Team.
They are Evan Botwin, Marcus Cain, Brian Dorsey, Jake Faust and Jacob Kasper.
Basketball
ECU: The team signed Deng Riak of Bradenton, Fla., to a National Letter of Intent, coach Jeff Lebo announced. Riak joins fall signees Kentrell Barkley of Durham and Clarence Williams of Tallahassee, Fla., as the Pirates’ three-member signing class of 2015.
Baseball
N.C. State: The Friday night game against Longwood was canceled because of rain. The series will resume on Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
Elon: The Hofstra Pride used a three-run fifth inning to claim a 5-3 victory over Elon in the first game of a three-game CAA baseball series at University Field.
Elon fell to 22-22 overall and 11-8 in league action with the defeat. Hofstra improved to 17-26, 4-15.
Softball
CIAA: The predicted weather forecast and current field conditions has forced the CIAA to activate its alternate schedule for the softball championship tournament.
The remaining games will be rescheduled for Saturday with the championship game to be played at 10 a.m. Sunday.
The elimination Round will now begin at 9 :00 a.m. and will feature Winston-Salem State against Virginia Union and Bowie State against Virginia State.
The semifinals will begin at 11:30 a.m. with Saint Augustine’s hosting Chowan and the winner of the WSSU/VUU game facing the winner of BSU/VSU.
Track & Field
UNC: Lizzy Whelan was selected to run for Athletics Canada during the International Association of Athletics Federations World Relays held May 2 and 3. Whelan was chosen to run on the women’s 4x800 relay team that competes at 8:10 p.m. on May 2.
