Notre Dame baseball wins 8-7 to sweep UNC Tar Heels
Kyle Richardson’s first career home run was a game-winner as Notre Dame (33-18, 15-12 ACC) completed a three-game sweep with an 8-7 win over No. 20 North Carolina (31-19, 13-13) Sunday at Frank Eck Stadium.
North Carolina ran out to a 6-0 lead, but the Irish hit five home runs and kept the Tar Heels off the scoreboard over the final six innings to complete the comeback.
Duke: Duke outhit Virginia 9-7 but lost 4-2 at Davenport Field.
Mount Olive: The team earned the No. 2 seed in the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional and will face No. 5 seed Wingate Thursday at top-seeded Catawba.
Women’s lacrosse
UNC: Aly Messinger scored four goals and Caylee Waters made 10 saves as host North Carolina beat Florida 11-6 in an NCAA Tournament second round game. The Tar Heels advance to host a quarterfinal game Saturday against Penn State.
Duke: Four Blue Devils turned in hat tricks and junior goalkeeper Kelsey Duryea anchored the defense with eight saves to keep Duke’s NCAA Tournament run alive with a 17-9 second round victory over Southern California at Koskinen Stadium. The third-seeded Blue Devils (15-4) secured a spot in the NCAA quarterfinals for the 11th consecutive season and will face Princeton next weekend in Durham to vie for a trip to the national semifinals.
Softball
UNC: The team will face Western Kentucky in the Athens regional on Friday in the first round of NCAA Softball Tournament.
N.C. State: The team will play third-seeded Fordham in the Harrisonburg (Va.) regional on Friday in an NCAA first-round game.
St. Aug’s: The Falcons’ season ended with a 10-2 loss Saturday to Gannon University in an NCAA Atlantic 1 Regional softball elimination game at California (Pa.) University.
Women’s Tennis
UNC: The No. 2 team earned a 4-0 victory over Dartmouth in the second round of the NCAA Women’s Tennis Championship inside Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.
Duke: The 20th-ranked team’s postseason run in the NCAA Team Championships came to a close in a 4-0 loss to No. 7 Georgia.
Golf
NCCU: The Eagles posted a 291 in the final round of the 29th PGA Minority Collegiate Golf Championship at The PGA Club to break the school’s 18-hole team scoring record.
