College Notebook: East Carolina wins in conference baseball tournament

Charlie Yorgen’s two-out single in the bottom of the ninth inning Thursday scored Hunter Allen from second base and completed East Carolina’s come-from-behind, 4-3 victory over Central Florida 4-3 in the American Athletic Conference baseball championship at Bright House Field.

Campbell: Josh Strong and Joey Strain limited the Camels to a run, and Winthrop claimed a 2-1 victory in a Big South Championship elimination game in Boiling Springs, N.C.

After an Anthony Lopez double and a single from Brian Taylor in the fourth, Strong and Strain held Campbell without a hit until the eighth, when Seth LaRue singled with two away.

Men’s Tennis

Duke: The Blue Devils had their season come to an end with losses during the NCAA singles and doubles championships at the Hurd Tennis Center in Waco, Texas. Freshman Nicolas Alvarez suffered a three-set loss in the Round of 32 singles and the doubles team of Alvarez and senior Raphael Hemmeler lost in the Round of 32.

Track and Field

Duke: Redshirt junior Teddi Maslowski secured a spot at the NCAA outdoor championships in the heptathlon competition, as announced by the NCAA Division I men’s and women’s track and field committee.
