College Notebook: St. Augustine’s Williams coach of the year

Saint Augustine’s George Williams was honored with another national award Wednesday when HE was named NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Men’s National Head Coach of the Year by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

Williams won his third straight USTFCCCA national outdoor coaching award and his fourth in six seasons. Overall, he has captured 18 USTFCCCA national indoor and outdoor coaching accolades since 1994. The Falcons’ coach has been the recipient of more than 150 conference, regional and national awards over his 39-year career at Saint Augustine’s.

The Falcons won their third straight NCAA Division II outdoor track and field title Saturday in Allendale, Mich.

Football

East Carolina: The Pirates will kick off the 2015 season at 6 p.m. Sept. 5 at home against Towson, the American Athletic Conference announced. The conference and ESPN also assigned start times for three other games. East Carolina face Temple at 7 p.m. on Oct. 22 and be televised on ESPN2, travel to Central Florida for a 7:30 p.m. game Nov. 19 on ESPN) and visit Connecticut for a 7 p.m. contest Oct. 30 on ESPNU.

The rest of the Pirates’ kickoff times will be announced once other television schedules are finalized.
