Duke’s Gibbons on champion U.S. soccer squad
Junior Christina Gibbons and the U.S. Under-23 women’s national team won the Four Nations Tournament in Norway with a 2-0-1 record, after closing the event with a 2-1 victory over England.
The U.S. also defeated Sweden 2-1 and tied host Norway 2-2. Sweden finished second, followed by Norway and England.
Gibbons, a native of Raleigh, started the final two games of the tournament on defense. In those two matches, the U.S. allowed just two goals over 180 minutes.
Softball
Campbell: Four Campbell University student-athletes have been named to the 2015 All-State softball teams by the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA). Twenty-four student-athletes representing seven different North Carolina universities were named to the 2015 squad.
Seniors Julia Callicutt, Ericka Nesbitt and Stephanie Jones were named to the all-state first team, while sophomore Katie Baker earned second-team honors.
NCCU: North Carolina Central University senior catcher Emerie Germ and junior outfielder Casey Hargett were named to the 2015 University Division All-State Softball First Team as announced by the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) on Tuesday.
