NC State’s Dunand in Home Run derby

N.C. State’s Joe Dunand will participate Thursday in the sixth annual TD Ameritrade College Home Run Derby in Omaha, Neb.

Competition begins at 8:30 p.m. The freshman third baseman and nephew of Alex Rodriguez cranked seven homers in his first year, four shy of the N.C. State freshman record held by Brian Bark (11 in 1987). Dunand’s total marks the fourth most for a Wolfpack true freshman since 1987.

Dunand will square off against defending champion Eric Gutierrez of Texas Tech, as well as Wake Forest’s Will Craig, North Dakota’s Jeff Campbell, BYU’s Colton Shaver, Miami’s Zack Collins, Georgia Tech’s Kel Johnson, and Mercer’s Kyle Lewis.

Wake Forest: Outfielder Stuart Fairchild picked up his fourth Freshman All-America honor as he was recognized by Perfect Game.

Men’s Soccer

Wake Forest: Head coach Bobby Muuss has announced the addition of Logan Gdula to the 2015 recruiting class.

Swimming and Diving

N.C. State: Five men’s team and four women’s team were named Individual Scholar All-Americans, as announced by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America.

The men are: Soren Dahl, Derek Hren, Anton Ipsen, Adam Linker and Hennessey Stuart. The women are Ashlyn Koletic, Natalie Labonge, Rachel Muller and Alexia Zevnik listed.

Women’s Golf

Duke: Rising sophomore Leona Maguire will participate in the ISPS Handa Ladies European Masters July 2-5 at the Buckinghamshire Golf Club in United Kingdom.

Women’s Lacrosse

Duke: The team will celebrate 20 years of women’s lacrosse at Duke University in 2015-16, highlighted by an Oct. 17 gala and alumni weekend on campus.

Women’s Tennis

Wake Forest: Recruit Emma Davis polished off her high school career last week by winning her fourth-straight MIAA state championship.
