Craig blasts way to runner-up finish at derby

Wake Forest sophomore Will Craig hit 30 total homers, including 16 in the second round, to finish second in the College Home Run Derby in Omaha.

Craig was the first hitter of the competition and was slow out of the gate, reaching five outs with one homer. He reeled off seven more bombs, including one on the money ball which was worth two, to finish the first round with nine and advance to round two.

After a two-hour wait, Craig was the final hitter to bat in round two. Needing at least 14 homers to tie and 15 to clinch a spot in the finals, he blasted 16 over the fence in the second round, leaping into first place and clinching a spot in the final.

North Dakota's Jeff Campbell hit first in the final round and set the bar with 10 home runs. Craig drilled five in the first six outs, but was unable to clear the fence again.
