Duke golfer Maguire 2nd at ISPS Handa Ladies European Masters

Duke University sophomore Leona Maguire carded an 11-under-par 277 at the ISPS Handa Ladies European Masters on her way to placing second overall at the Buckinghamshire Golf Club in United Kingdom.

Maguire, who is from Cavan, Ireland, was playing on a sponsor’s invitation and turned in rounds of 69, 70, 69 and 69 to finish one shot behind Beth Allen (276) to finish as the best amateur. Maguire entered the final round four shots off the lead but the Blue Devils golfer quickly made up ground.

After a birdie on No. 17, Maguire was tied for the lead heading into the final hole. On her approach shot into the 18th green, she hit her ball over the green and into the bunker. Maguire had a great shot out of the trap, but missed a seven foot putt for par.

Maguire heads to Denmark to play in the European Ladies’ Team Championship at Helsingør from July 7-11.
