Duke freshman Salvadores guides Spain to FIBA U18 gold medal
Behind a game-high 27 points, Duke University freshman Angela Salvadores helped lead Spain to the FIBA U18 European Championship Sunday in Celje, Slovenia. Salvadores and Spain downed France, 76-60, to win the title.
Salvadores, who hails from Leon, Spain, notched her third career gold medal and sixth overall medal with Spanish National Teams.
In Sunday’s championship, Salvadores hit 10-of-23 field goals, 7-of-7 free throws, four assists and one steal in 39 minutes of action.
Swimming and Diving
N.C. State: Simonas Bilis and Soren Dahl of the NC State men's swimming and diving team completed competition Sunday at the 2015 FINA World Championships, held in Kazan, Russia. Bilis represented Lithuania while Dahl competed for Denmark.
Track and Field
Saint Augustine’s: Alumni Barbara Pierre captured two gold medals at the NACAC Senior Track & Field Championships.
On Sunday, Pierre was on the winning team in the women’s 4x100-meter relay in 42.24 seconds, which set the event record.Puerto Rico placed second.
On Saturday, Pierre won the women’s 100-meter dash in 11.12 seconds.
