UNC’s Jamie Loeb to face Caroline Wozniacki at U.S. Open
NEW YORK 2015 NCAA singles champion Jamie Loeb will face 4th-seed Caroline Wozniacki in her professional debut next week at the U.S. Open.
The newest player on the women’s tour after deciding to forgo her final two seasons at North Carolina earlier this month, Loeb, at age 20, will face one of the most accomplished players in the world in Wozniacki, a former World No. 1 on the WTA Tour. She was runner-up at the 2009 and 2014 US Opens.
No stranger to the grounds at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, Loeb won the inaugural American Collegiate Invitational last September in Flushing, N.Y.
She grew up in nearby Ossining, a town that sits near the Hudson River. Loeb, ranked No. 411 in the world, has been coming to the Open since she was a preschooler.
Since winning the NCAA title in May, Loeb won a hard-court challenger tournament in El Paso, Texas, in June. She was named ACC Player of the Year both seasons at UNC.
Specific times and dates of US Open first-round matches will be announced at a later date.
