College notebook: Wolfpack men’s soccer falls to Davidson; Duke volleyball player honored

NC State men’s soccer outshot the Davidson Wildcats 17-6 Monday night but dropped a 2-1 decision on the road.

Zach Knudson provided the Pack (3-1) with a late spark in the 86th minute, cashing in his second goal of the year, on an assist from Travis Wannemuehler.

Davidson (2-0-1) built a 2-0 lead with goals in the 22nd and 73rd minutes.

The Wolfpack hosts Boston College at 7 p.m. Friday.

Duke: The Blue Devils will open midweek play with Loyola at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Football

NCCU: Senior offensive guard Clevonne Davis and freshman kicker Nigel Macauley were honored by the MEAC for their play in the Eagles’ 72-0 season-opening victory over Saint Augustine’s.

Volleyball

Duke: Freshman middle blocker Leah Meyer is ACC Freshman of the Week.

Elon: The team (1-6) hosts Davidson (3-3) at 8 p.m. Tuesday in Alumni Gym.

Women’s Cross Country

Meredith: Macy Brinson is season’s first USA South Rookie of the Week.
