3 Blue Devils named ACC Player of the Week

Coming off a 34-20 victory against No. 20 Georgia Tech, Duke received three ACC Player of the Week Awards from the conference office Monday.

Redshirt senior safety Jeremy Cash was named the defensive back, redshirt junior safety DeVon Edwards the specialist and redshirt junior defensive tackle A.J. Wolf the defensive lineman of the week.

The ACC weekly honor is the fourth in Cash’s career, the third for Edwards and the first for Wolf.

Wake Forest: The ACC announced that Wake Forest and Boston College will kick off at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 10 at BC’s Alumni Stadium.

▪ Senior rover Hunter Williamshas been named a semifinalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy, awarded by the National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame and is considered college football’s prize scholar-athlete award.

Baseball

N.C. State: The Wolfpack hosts three exhibitions starting Oct. 2: against the Czech National Team, against Elon and an intrasquad scrimmage.

Cross Country

NCCU: Junior Gregory Coward finished 13th out of 170 runners to pace the Eagles to an upper half finish in the Greensboro Cross Country Invitational at Hagan Stone Park on Saturday. The women’s team was fourth out of 19.

Men’s Lacrosse

Duke: Former standout Zack Greer added another gold medal to his collection over the weekend as he helped lead Canada to the Federation of International Lacrosse World Indoor Lacrosse Championship title. Former Blue Devil CJ Costabile helped guide the United States to the bronze medal.

Men’s Soccer

Elon: The Phoenix earned its highest ranking in the Ratings Percentage Index report at No. 11.

Sports Club

Raleigh: ACC Commissioner John Swofford will be the special guest speaker at the Sept. 30 meeting. Miller Meares, member of the cross country and track & field teams at North Raleigh Christian Academ,y will be honored as the RSC Student Athlete of the Week.

Volleyball

East Carolina: Senior libero Erika Figueroa was named American Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week after helping the Pirates to a 1-1 record over the weekend while reaching 1,000 career digs.
