Duke’s Cash adds another award
Duke redshirt senior safety Jeremy Cash collected his fourth national honor of the week Wednesday, being named player of the week by the Jim Thorpe Award.
Cash had already been named defensive player of the week by the Walter Camp Foundation and the Football Writers Association of America as well as the ACC defensive back of the week.
Florida: Quarterback Will Grier will make his fourth consecutive start Saturday when the 25th-ranked Gators host No. 3 Mississippi.
Coach Jim McElwain made the announcement after practice, saying Grier, “played pretty good in some situations last week” and “deserves to go this week.”
Southern: The school has launched the Devon Gales Fund to provide financial assistance to Gales’ medical expenses following his surgery for a spinal injury in Saturday’s loss at No. 8 Georgia. The effort is being organized by the athletic department and the Southern University System Foundation.

Tennessee: Reserve linebacker Quart’e Sapp will be out indefinitely with a stress fracture in his foot, coach Butch Jones said.
Jones said Sapp, who played in each of Tennessee’s first four games and made three tackles, will miss “an inordinate amount of time.” Jones added that he “can’t really put a time frame on it.”

St. Augustine’s: Immanuel Hutchinson and coach Sandy Chapman were honored by the CIAA with weekly awards. Hutchinson was named men’s runner of the week and Chapman was chosen coach of the week.
