Duke’s Martin named Groza Star of the Week, ACC Specialist of the Week
Duke senior Ross Martin collected his second accolade of the week as he was named a Lou Groza Collegiate Place Kicker Award Star of the Week, according to an announcement by the Palm Beach County Sports Commission. It is the second time in Martin’s career he has been named a Groza Star of the Week.
He was also named the ACC Specialist of the Week. The league honor is the second of Martin’s career and the fifth for a Blue Devil this season.
Campbell: Ugonna Awuruonye has been named STATS FCS National Defensive Player of the Week after posting 3.0 sacks and 10 tackles in a win over Drake.
Elon: The Phoenix is partnering with the Alamance Regional Charitable Foundation to raise awareness and money for the KidsCan! program that assists children who have a parent with cancer.
NCCU: Redshirt senior safety C.J. Moore, redshirt junior center Carl Jones and redshirt freshman running back Dorrel McClain earned weekly awards from the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference on Monday for their performances against Bethune-Cookman.
Wake Forest: Sophomore tight end Cam Serigne has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference's Receiver of the Week for his performance Saturday against Florida State.
Baseball
Duke: Because of heavy rain last week, the Blue Devils’ exhibition game against the Czech Republic National Team on Tuesday has been moved from the Durham Bulls Athletic Park to Duke’s Jack Coombs Field.
Men’s Lacrosse
Duke: Head coach John Danowski has announced the hiring of Alec Jernstedt as the Blue Devils’ volunteer assistant coach. Jernstedt, who will work with the defense, joins the Duke staff after one season at the University of Delaware.
Men’s Golf
N.C. State: The Pack sits tied for third among 16 teams with a team score of 292 (+8) after completing the first day of play at the Wolfpack Fall Intercollegiate at Lonnie Poole Golf Course.
Wake Forest: The Deacons posted a second consecutive strong round of 26 under par through 36 holes at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club and continues to lead the Nike Golf Collegiate Invitational.
Volleyball
NCCU: Freshman Kierra Shipman was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Volleyball Rookie of the Week, the league office announced.
Women’s Basketball
Duke: The Blue Devils were tabbed No. 8 and No. 13, respectively, in The Sporting News and Athlon Sports magazines. Sophomore Azurá Stevens was selected preseason Second Team All-America in both issues.
Women’s Cross Country
N.C. State: For the second time this season, Ryen Frazier has earned USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week honors. Frazier won her second race of the season last weekend at the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invite.
