UNC field hockey falls to Wake Forest

The third-ranked North Carolina field hockey team fell 3-2 at No. 7 Wake Forest on Friday afternoon, losing for just the second time all season.

Wake Forest scored just 2:14 into the match, on its second penalty corner of the game. After UNC goalkeeper Shannon Johnson made a save on the first shot, WFU junior Emily Conroe grabbed the rebound and scored to make it 1-0.

Women’s Golf

NCSU: Freshman Laura Kowohl shot a 2-under 70 to lead the 26th-ranked team at the Landfall Tradition. NC State is sixth in the team standings after the first round.

Duke: The fifth-ranked team opened with a solid start at the 2015 Landfall Tradition as the Blue Devils lead by two strokes, after carding a one-under-par, 287.

Women’s tennis

Duke: The team resumed play at the USTA/ITA Regional Championship in Chapel Hill, with the doubles pair of junior Alyssa Smith and sophomore Rebecca Smaller advancing in the main doubles draw of the tournament.

Men’s Soccer

UNC: The team clinched the Coastal Division with a 2-1 victory over Louisville at Fetzer Field.

UNC (13-1-1, 6-1-0 ACC) received goals from Tucker Hume and Andy Lopez.
