5 Blue Devils earn academic honors
Five Blue Devils – Gabe Brandner, DeVon Edwards, Ross Martin, Thomas Sirk and A.J. Wolf – were named to the Academic All-District III First Team, according to an announcement by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
Senior kicker Ross Martin is one of 20 semifinalists for the Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award presented by the Orange Bowl, according to an announcement by the Palm Beach County Sports Commission on Thursday.
Redshirt senior safety Jeremy Cash has been named a semifinalist for the Pop Warner National College Football Award,.
NCCU: Junior center Carl Jones and sophomore punter Nathaniel Tilque have been voted to the 2015 CoSIDA Academic All-District Football Team as Division I First-Team honorees in District III.
Wake Forest: Safety Ryan Janvion and outside linebacker Hunter Williams have each been named to the CoSIDA Academic-All-District III team.
Shaw: The Bears and Lady Bears will hold a Garnett and White intra-squad benefit scrimmage on Nov. 7 at the Word of God Christian Academy.
Field Hockey
Duke: The fourth-ranked Blue Devils fell 5-1 to No. 5 Virginia in the ACC Championship quarterfinals at the Cavaliers’ University Hall Turf Field.
Wake Forest: The Demon Deacons dropped a double-overtime heartbreaker to Boston College, 4-3, in the quarterfinals of the ACC Tournament on Thursday in Charlottesville, Va.
Volleyball
Meredith: Four earned end-of-season honors as announced Thursday from the USA South Athletic Conference office. Junior Karlie Long led the honorees with placement on the All-Conference first team.
St. Aug’s: Junior Olivia Porter collected nine kills and Senior Juliseea Thomas added 15 assists and 11 digs, but the Lady Falcons lost in three sets to Fayetteville State University in a CIAA volleyball match at Capel Arena on Thursday.
Women’s Basketball
ECU: Head coach Heather Macy, partnering with Championship Productions, announced the release of Macy’s first DVD titled Heather Macy: Practice Planning Pyramid Drills.
