North Carolina, N.C. State women’s basketball teams announce recruiting classes

UNC’s women’s basketball program signed seven high school seniors to National Letters of Intent, announced Wednesday by head coach Sylvia Hatchell.

The seven members of the class of 2020 are Shayla Bennett of Piedmont, S.C., Jhileya Dunlap of Hopkins, S.C., Jocelyn Jones of Richmond, Va., Taylor Koenen of Savage, Minn., Alyssa Okoene of Houston, Texas, Emily Sullivan of Newburgh, Ind., and Naomi Van Nes of Hamden, Conn. The class is being touted as the No. 13 class in the nation according to ESPN.

N.C. State: Head coach Wes Moore today announced the signing of a strong recruiting class which will join the Wolfpack for the 2016-17 season. The Wolfpack’s latest class is ranked 12th in the nation by ESPNW and fourth in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Men’s Golf

Wake Forest: Freshman Cameron Young was named ACC Golfer of the Month for October, conference officials announced Wednesday.

Men’s Tennis

Duke: Sophomore Nicolas Alvarez will represent the Blue Devils at this week’s USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y.

Track & Field

Duke: Two former Blue Devils, Brian Atkinson and Bo Waggoner, recently cemented their invitations to compete in the marathon at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials for a chance to run at the 2016 Summer Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Volleyball

St. Aug’s: Junior Olivia Porter was named CIAA volleyball player of the week.

The Falcons downs Livingstone 3-2 in volleyball on senior night.
