Duke’s Stevens ACC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week
DURHAM Sophomore Azurá Stevens was named the ACC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week on Monday after guiding Duke to the Mayan Tournament title over the weekend at the Cancun Challenge in Riviera Maya, Mexico.
Field Hockey
Duke: Redshirt senior goalkeeper Lauren Blazing and senior midfielderAileen Johnson were named to the Longstreth/NFHCA All-South Region first team while senior backs Hannah Barreca and Amanda Kim, junior forward Heather Morris, sophomore back Alyssa Chillano and sophomore forward Ashley Kristen all appeared on the second team.
UNC: Casey Di Nardo, Nina Notman, Emily Wold, Julia Young, Ashley Hoffman, Gab Major and Eva van’t Hoog earned All-South Region honors.
Wake Forest: Valerie Dahmen and Jess Newak earned All-South Region First Team accolades while Jule Grashoff and Kali Vicars each were named to the All-South Region Second Team.
Football
UNC: First-year defensive coordinator Gene Chizik is one of five finalists for the Broyles Award, which goes to the nation’s best assistant coach.
Men’s Soccer
Elon: Coach Chris Little was selected as the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Midwest Region Coach of the Year.
Men’s Basketball
Campbell: Chris Clemons is the Big South Conference men’s basketball freshman of the week.
NC State: Cat Barber was voted ACC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week.
Raleigh Sports Club: Charlotte Smith, women’s basketball coach at Elon and former UNC basketball star, will be the special guest speaker at the Raleigh Sports Club.
