N.C. State’s Kemp breaks indoor

Erika Kemp broke N.C. State’s indoor school record in the 5,000m, crossing the finish line in 15:45.46 at the BU season opener.

Her time broke current women’s cross country head coach Laurie Henes’ 24-year record by almost 10 seconds and tops the nation in women’s 5,000m times.

Kemp, a Mount Holly, N.J., native, shattered her old 5,000m indoor personal best by almost 31 seconds.

The time should warrant an NCAA Indoor qualifying mark, as only four runners beat Kemp’s time during the 2014-15 season.
