NCSU wins wrestling match

The fifth-ranked N.C. State wrestling team won nine of 10 bouts and defeated Grand Canyon on Sunday morning in, 35-3. In the Pack’s nine wins, four came via bonus points – one fall, two tech falls and one major decision.

N.C. State improves to a perfect 10-0, the most consecutive victories for the Wolfpack to open a season in school history.

After four consecutive decisions put the Pack up 12-0, No. 6 Tommy Gantt scored the first bonus point win, a 22-6 technical fall at 157 pounds. Chad Pyke followed at 165 pounds with a 9-1 major decision.

No. 15 Pete Renda also claimed a tech fall win, 16-1 in the first period at 184 pounds. Mike Kosoy closed the Pack’s dominate win with a second period pin at 285 pounds.

North Carolina: Redshirt freshman Cory Daniel's 5-4 win at 285 gave the No. 16 North Carolina (5-1) team an 18-14 dual victory over host Army West Point on Saturday night at Poly Prep.

Tyrone Klump, Evan Henderson, Christian Barber, Ethan Ramos and Alex Utley were also winners for the Tar Heels, who traveled to No. 22 Old Dominion on Sunday.

Carolina (5-1) showed its strength in the middle weights to take a lead it would not relinquish, as Henderson, Barber and Ramos all won tight decisions to give UNC a 12-7 advantage after six bouts.

Campbell: Nathan Kraisser and Paul Duggan each recorded a pin as the host Camels (0-6, 0-1) fell to Chattanooga 31-12 on Saturday in their Southern Conference opener at Carter Gym.
