Wake Forest’s Alexander Kinal accepts Reese’s Senior Bowl invitation

Wake Forest redshirt senior punter Alexander Kinal has accepted an invitation to compete in the 67th annual Reese’s Senior Bowl, the organization announced Monday.

The game is set to be played on Jan. 30 at 1:30 p.m. at Mobile’s Ladd-Peebles Stadium.

A first team All-ACC pick by the league’s head coaches, Kinal helped Wake Forest lead the ACC and finish ninth nationally with a net punting average of 41.3 yards.

His 32 punts inside the opponent’s 20-yard line was the most in the ACC, and his three touchbacks tied for the lowest in the conference.

Kinal’s invitation marks the fifth straight year a Deacon has been invited to the game.

Duke: Redshirt senior safety Jeremy Cash has been named to the 2015 AutoNation Football Writers Association of America All-America First Team, according to an announcement by the organization Monday.

Field Hockey

Duke: Redshirt senior goalkeeper Lauren Blazing has been named one of four nominees for the prestigious Honda Sport Award for field hockey.

Men’s Basketball

East Carolina: Freshman Kentrell Barkley has been named The American Rookie-of-the-Week following his performances against College of Charleston and N.C. A&T last week, the league office announced Monday.

▪ Freshman Deng Riak will have surgery to repair an injured right shoulder and will miss the remainder of the 2015-16 season.

Men’s Lacrosse

Duke: The Blue Devils has been selected to finish second in the 2016 ACC Men’s Lacrosse Preseason Poll and Blue Devils seniors Deemer Class and Myles were voted to the preseason All-ACC squad.

Women’s Basketball

Elon: Guard Lauren Brown has been named the Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Week, as announced by the league office Monday.

Wake Forest: In front of a program-record crowd of 8,849, the Demon Deacons picked up a 57-51 win over Jacksonville at the LJVM Coliseum on Monday.

Women’s Golf

Duke: Leona Maguire has been invited to attend a Curtis Cup familiarization session Dec. 18-19 at the Dun Laoghaire Golf Club in Ireland.
