Duke sweeps weekly ACC Awards

Following stellar performances in a 3-0 week for the Blue Devils, Duke’s Grayson Allen and Brandon Ingram were named ACC Player of the Week and ACC Rookie of the Week, respectively, on Monday by a panel of media who cover the league.

The awards mark the second of the season for both Allen and Ingram.

Allen was a catalyst for Duke in wins over Elon, Long Beach State and Boston College, averaging team highs of 22.3 points and 5.3 assists while sharing the team lead with an average of 2.0 steals per game. He added 5.3 rebounds per game, shot .526 from the floor and was 24-of-27 (.889) from the free-throw line.

Allen played 39 minutes in Saturday’s win at Boston College in Duke’s ACC opener, narrowly missing a double-double with 17 points and nine rebounds. He shared game-high honors with nine boards and five assists, while once again tying his career high with three steals. It was an efficient evening for Allen, who was 5-of-8 (.625) from the floor and 7-of-8 from the line.

Mount Olive: On the strength of its six-game winning streak, the Trojans moved up three spots to No. 7 in this week’s D2SIDA Men’s Basketball Southeast Region Top 10 Poll. The regional poll is voted on by members of the Collegiate Sports Information Directors of America.

Elon: Former Phoenix standout Miguel Salazar was added to the 60 invitees selected to participate at the 2016 adidas Major League Soccer Player Combine as announced on Monday.

NC State: Spotlighted by Rachel Mumma’s third-place performance in the three-meter competition, the Wolfpack diving team completed its second day of competition Monday at the Georgia Diving Invitational, hosted by Georgia inside Gabrielsen Natatorium.

NC State: New Wolfpack volleyball head coach Linda Hampton-Keith announced Monday that Kevin Campbell and Nicki Holmes have joined the staff as assistant coaches.
