Notebook: UNC’s Hayley Carter, Whitney Kay on ITA All-Star team
North Carolina women’s tennis players Hayley Carter and Whitney Kay were named to the ITA Collegiate All-Star Team, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced Tuesday. The ITA Collegiate All-Star Team honors the top student-athletes of the 2015-16 season from all five divisions. The student-athletes will be recognized Aug. 25-27 in New York.
▪ Makenna Jones, a recruit from Greenville, S.C., signed with the Tart Heels, coach Brian Kalbas announced. She is ranked eighth in the nation and second in the Southeast, according to TennisRecruiting.net.
Women’s Lacrosse
Duke: The Blue Devils wrapped up the year at No. 11 in the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association’s final poll. Duke compiled an 11-9 mark and earned the program’s 19th consecutive NCAA tournament appearance, reaching the second round.
Men’s Lacrosse
Mount Olive: The Trojans’ Ross Bowman, Matt Shields, and Luke Morris were named to the U.S. Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Division II Scholar All-American Team. They grabbed three of the 11 spots on the team.
Men’s Basketball
Wake Forest: The Deacons announced their 2016-17 nonconference schedule. They will have five home nonconference games, beginning with the opener against Radford on Nov. 11. The nonconference schedule will conclude Dec. 22 when Louisiana State will make its first-ever trip to Winston-Salem.
