Notebook: Former Duke star Lindsey Harding signs with WNBA’s Phoenix Mercury
Less than a week after helping Belarus qualify for the Olympics, former Duke star Lindsey Harding signed with the Phoenix Mercury of the WNBA.
Harding, a 2007 graduate, originally was drafted No. 1 by the Mercury nine years ago, but she was traded to Minnesota and never saw game action for Phoenix.
A 5-foot-8 point guard, Harding made her debut with the Mercury on Friday evening and had five assists along with two points in 21 minutes.
Harding played for Minnesota (2007-08), Washington (2009-10), Atlanta (2011-12), Los Angeles (2013-14) and New York (2016) before joining the Mercury. She was waived June 15 while away qualifying for the Olympics with Belarus.
In 249 games at Duke, Harding averaged 10.3 points, 3.0 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 1.1 steals. She is 18th in WNBA career assists (1,046). She was the 2007 Naismith Player of the Year while with the Blue Devils.
With Harding joining Phoenix, she reunites with former Duke teammate Mistie Bass, who is in her 10th WNBA season.
