Notebook: Tar Heels’ Levy national women’s lacrosse coach of the year

North Carolina’s Jenny Levy was named the NCAA Division I National Coach of the Year, the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association announced.

She will be honored at the honors banquet Nov. 17 during the IWLCA annual meetings at Coronado Springs Resort in Florida.

The Tar Heels went 20-2 in 2016, including 7-0 during the ACC regular season. They won the ACC and NCAA tournaments for the second time while also winning a school-record 17 consecutive games to close the season.

Levy also was national coach of the year in 2013 after North Carolina’s first NCAA title.

Women’s Golf

Campbell: Former Camels standout Michelle Koh qualified to represent Malaysia in the Rio Olympics. A 2012 graduate, Koh is one of 60 players in the world to qualify for the Olympic tournament, which will be held Aug. 17-20 in Rio de Janeiro.

Swimming and Diving

Duke: Coach Dan Colella announced the addition of Niko Fantakis to the Blue Devils staff. Fantakis will serve as a volunteer assistant coach working with the program’s swimmers.

Football

Raleigh Sports Club: N.C. State coach Dave Doeren will be the keynote speaker for the first meeting of the new season, Aug. 17. Meetings are at Bradley Hall in Highland UMC, 1901 Ridge Road.

Campbell: Three-game mini-plans for coming season are on sale through the athletics ticket office. Both mini-plan options include the Family Weekend contest against Butler (Sept. 24, 6 p.m.), plus the home finale vs. San Diego (Nov. 19, noon). Game 3 choices in the package include the Presbyterian (Sept. 17, 6 p.m.) and Davidson (Nov. 5, 4 p.m.) games.
