Five Pack athletes competing in Rio

Five student-athletes from N.C. State’s swimming and diving and rifle programs are set to compete in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, slated to start Saturday.

Simonas Bilis, Soren Dahl, Ryan Held and Anton Ipsen will represent the Wolfpack’s swimming and diving program, while Lucas Kozeniesky will represent the rifle team. Held and Kozeniesky are members of Team USA, while Dahl and Ipsen are Denmark natives and Bilis hails from Lithuania.

Bilis will swim the 50m and 100m freestyle, Dahl will compete on Denmark’s 4x200m free relay, Held qualified for the USA’s 4x100m free relay, while Ipsen will swim the 400m and 1,500m free and Kozeniesky will compete in the men’s air rifle competition.

Football

ECU: The 22nd Annual Meet the Pirates preseason fanfest is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 13 inside Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium from 6 to 8 p.m. This year’s activities will once again be open to the public and free for all in attendance.

Men’s Basketball

UNC: Marcus Paige, Toby Egbuna and Justin Coleman have all earned spots on the 2015-16 National Association of Basketball Coaches Honors Court, recognizing their academic achievement. The achievement is bestowed upon junior or senior players that maintained a 3.2 GPA throughout the academic year.

Men’s Lacrosse

UNC: The Intercollegiate Men’s Lacrosse Coaches Association has announced its second Hall of Fame class. The class includes Willie Scroggs, who mentored the Tar Heels from 1978-90, winning three national championships.

Tennis

Campbell: Pedro Palma has been named assistant men’s and women’s tennis coach, head coach David Johnson announced. Palma joins the Fighting Camels after spending the last year as head tennis coach at Highland Country Club in Fayetteville. He also served as head coach at The Dunes Club in Rhode Island.

Women’s Golf

Duke: As match play kicked off Wednesday at the U.S. Women’s Amateur, the Devils duo of Celine Boutier and Virginia Elena Carta each won their first-round contests to advance on to the round of 32 at the Rolling Green Golf Club in Springfield, Pa.

Field Hockey

Duke: Head coach Pam Bustin announced Wednesday the addition of Wesley Drew to the coaching staff. A former standout at William & Mary, Drew joins the Blue Devils as an assistant coach.

Miscellaneous

Wake Forest: The 2016 Athletics Fan Fest will be held Saturday, Aug. 13 at BB&T Field. Fans will be allowed on the field at 5 p.m. to meet student-athletes from the fall sports teams and will have the opportunity for autographs and pictures as well.
