RIO de JANEIRO Junior Anton Ipsen of the N.C. State men’s swimming and diving team made his Olympic debut on Saturday afternoon in the 400m freestyle in Rio de Janeiro.
Held inside the Olympics Aquatics Stadium, the Birkerod, Denmark native, posted a personal-best time of 3:48.31 to finish 20th of 50 competitors among the event standings.
Ipsen is slated to also compete in the men’s 1,500m free, as the prelims will be held Aug. 12 at noon and finals will be at 9 p.m. Aug. 13.
Ryan Held is the next from the Wolfpack to compete in Rio. He will swim for Team USA in the 4x100m freestyle relay Sunday. Prelims are set for noon and the finals are slated for a 9 p.m. start.
The Olympics will run through Aug. 21 and will be broadcast on NBC. On most days, NBC primetime programming will air from 8 p.m. to midnight; daytime from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; late night from 12:35 a.m. to 1:35 a.m.; and replays from 1:35 a.m. to 4:30 a.m.

UNC: Led by Destinee Walker’s 26 points, the team put five players in double figures during a 92-63 victory over the Ireland Senior National Team on Saturday afternoon from Mardyke Arena on the campus of University County Cork.
