Southern Lee downs Union Pines football, sets up Brick City showdown

Southern Lee kept its dream of a conference title alive Friday night, topping Union Pines football 51-35.

The Cavaliers (7-2, 3-1 Cape Fear Valley 3A) could win out over the next few weeks and force a three-way tie for first place. It all starts this Friday with a home game against rival Lee County in the Brick City Bowl.

Lee County is 9-0 and led by its defense (8.1 points per game) and running back Jahmir Smith, who transferred from Southern Lee after last season.

The Vikings (6-4, 2-3) which are 1-3 after losing quarterback Ben Bowbliss for the year, were led by Justin Eberhart’s two rushing scores and 133 yards.

Josh Polidori completed 17 of 31 passes for 240 yards and two touchdowns. Jack Tercheria caught four passes for 78 yards and a score and B.J. Hackett caught a 51-yard touchdown pass.
