Western Harnett football coach Jason Furrie out after two seasons
Western Harnett football coach Jason Furrie was fired Monday after two seasons at the helm. The Eagles were 2-9 this year and 2-8 the year before.
“We didn’t win enough games,” Furrie said.
Furrie was disappointed with the decision. Before taking the job, he had decided to keep all freshmen and sophomores down on the JV to develop a winning attitude and camaraderie that would pay off over time.
The Eagles have not had a winning season since 2005. The 2015 JV team showed promise by winning a conference title and next season would have been the first year both of those classes were on varsity.
“I had a plan. I kept the JV down for two years on purpose and we have a good group coming,” he said.
There are now 12 area openings: Wakefield, Green Hope, East Wake, Riverside, Harnett Central, Orange, Union Pines, Western Harnett, Beddingfield, Bunn, Northern Vance and Southern Vance.
