Win No. 1 for the Wake Forest boys lacrosse team looked like it was sealed during the early minutes of the second quarter; the Cougars led by as many as eight goals.

But they had to fight off Rolesville’s third quarter rally to win 12-8 and keep Rolesville winless on the year.

Brooks Long tallied seven goals and Michael Bumpass added two for the Cougars (1-9, 1-6 Cap-8/Greater Neuse River 4A) who scored the game’s first four goals in a span of just 1 minute and 26 seconds.

Rolesville continues to search for its first win as the Rams drop to 0-8 on the season and 0-2 in conference play. Once the second half began, the Rams came out firing and peppered Tyler Talbot with shots. David McLymore scored two of his team-high four goals in the quarter. Nick Honkomp and Andrew Bardsley strung together two more goals as the Rams cut their deficit to four.

The Rams weren’t able to draw any closer in the final quarter as both teams scored just once.
