The News & Observer’s All-Metro swim teams can be summed up in three letters: M-V-P.

Cardinal Gibbons’ Noah Cairns, Cary’s Justin Ress and Carrboro’s Will MacMillan were each named the MVPs of their respective N.C. High School Athletic Association championships and lead The News & Observer’s All-Metro swim teams.

Ress, an N.C. State recruit, won the 4A 200 individual medley and the 500 freestyle. Cairns, a North Carolina recruit, was the 3A MVP for the second straight year after winning 100 breaststroke and the 500 freestyle. MacMillan set a new 1A/2A record in the 200 freestyle and also won the 100 freestyle to repeat his MVP honors.

Eleven of the 14 boys named to the team were state champs as were seven of the 14 girls.

Ress, Cairns, MacMillan, Panther Creek diver Connor Callahan, St. David’s Riley Mears and Chapel Hill’s Pudik are two-time All-Metro picks while Carrboro’s Thomas Bilden made the team for a third time.
