Barnes, Barkley, Hunter, Ealey on AP all-state team
Julius Barnes, who led Garner Magnet High to the state 4A boys’ basketball championship, landed a spot on The Associated Press’ 13-player all-state team as selected by media representatives across the state.
Barnes led the Trojans past Charlotte Hough in the N.C. High School Athletic Association title game, hitting two crucial 3-point baskets in the final minutes. He was named the championship game’s most valuable player.
Northern Durham’s Kentrell Barkley, an East Carolina recruit, also was selected to the team.
Athens Drive forward Grace Hunter and Broughton’s Kaila Ealey were namd to the girls’ team.
Brandon Ingram, a McDonald’s All-America Game selection, led Kinston to the state 2A title and received 21 of 22 votes. Hough’s Luke May also received 21 votes.
Weddington’s Stephanie Watts, a McDonald’s pick, led the girls’ voting with 20 votes.
