Garner Magnet High School basketball player Jaren Ellerbe put on a dunking show on Friday. One of his dunks was good enough to make ESPN’s Snapchat version of the SportsCenter Top Plays on Saturday.

During a pep rally Ellerbe, a 6-5, 180-pound senior, soared over three or four teammates for a monster dunk that sent the crowd at the South Garner High School gym into a frenzy.

“He’s an exceptional leaper,” Garner basketball coach Eddie Gray said.

Gray, who is retiring from coaching after this season, said he didn’t see the dunk because he went back to his office after introducing the players.

“Thank goodness he didn’t get hurt,” Gray said.

It was No. 5 of five video highlights introduced by ESPN host Jason Fitz.

Garner High’s basketball program tweeted about it Saturday.

Friday’s pep rally was the conclusion of Garner’s basketball spirit week. The players put on a dunking show at the pep rally before Ellerbe’s big dunk.

Ellerbe, who played at Word of God during his junior season before returning to Garner for his senior year, had another impressive dunk late in Garner’s 96-72 win over Holly Springs on Friday night. Ellerbe finished with 18 points for the 19-1 Trojans.
