Knightdale’s Trevion Cooley is taking his talents to the Bluegrass State.

Cooley, a rising senior running back, posted to Twitter on Monday afternoon that he was verbally committed to Louisville.

Rated as a four-star running back by 247Sports, Cooley (5-foot-11, 205 pounds) turned down a host of in-state ACC offers, including Duke and N.C. State.

“Throughout the recruiting process, I was lucky enough to visit a number of schools, spend time with other recruits and their families, and meet dozens of coaches that shared their wisdom about football, academics, and life with me,” Cooley wrote on his Twitter page. “With that being said, I am fully committed to working my hardest as a young black man, a student, and a football player at … The University of Louisville. #GoCards #FlyVille21.”

He’s the 12th player to commit to Louisville in the class of 2021. Cooley’s junior season was cut short after he suffered an ACL injury, and he finished with 986 yards and 14 touchdowns in eight games. His best performance was a 214-yard night against Enloe during a 41-17 win. In eight games, Cooley rushed for 100 yards or more four times. As a sophomore, he led the team in rushing with 931 yards and seven touchdowns.

Cooley is a top-50 player in North Carolina and the second Knightdale player from last season’s team to play in the ACC. Defensive tackle Aenas Peebles is a freshman at Duke.
