Longtime Apex High School soccer coach Kevin Todd dies after ‘medical event’ at school
Kevin Todd, a longtime Apex High School soccer coach and teacher, died Wednesday afternoon in the hospital after a “medical event” earlier in the day, the school’s principal said in an email to families.
In an email first reported by HighSchoolOT, principal Elaine Hofmann called Todd’s death “a tragic loss” for the Apex community, where he’d been a fixture for 30 years.
“I have reached out to his family,” Hofmann wrote, “and we want to honor Coach Todd as he will be greatly missed by the students, staff and community.”
Todd was a staple in the North Carolina soccer community, leading both the men’s team (2005) and women’s team (2007) at Apex to NCHSAA 4A state championships. The school has postponed its class of 2020-21 senior procession, originally scheduled for Thursday, in reaction to the tragedy.
