Chapel Hill’s Lizzie Ball is News & Observer athlete of the week

In one of the closest races of the year, Chapel Hill HIgh soccer star Lizzie Ball is the News & Observer high school atthlete of the week.

Ball beat Heritage’s Ainsley Donovan by less than 600 votes.

Ball scored the game-winning goal in a 1-0 win over Northern Guilford in the 3A state semifinals, May 11.

Cox Mill also beat Chapel Hill 1-0 in the 3A state championship game at Grimsley High in Greensboro May 15.

Ball had 13 goals and nine assists for Chapel Hill (17-2) this season.
