Wakefield High’s Ellija Preddy is the News & Observer’s high school athlete of the week

The 6-foot junior averaged 14.3 points, 5.3 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game to earn the MVP of the South Granville Holiday Classic (Columbia Bracket).

Preddy had 10 points, nine rebounds and six assists as Wakefield beat Middle Creek 52-43 Dec. 28.

The next night, he had 16 points, three rebounds and four assists to lead his t3eam to a 59-41 victory over East Wake.

Preddy posted 17 points, four rebounds and three assists to lead Wakefield to a 56-46 win over Sanderson in the championship game Dec. 30.

Through the first 12 games of the season, Preddy was averaging 13.6 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.9 steals per game for Wakefield (11-1).
