N&O readers name Emerson Waldorf’s Trevor Button as boys HS senior of the year
News & Observer readers have named Emerson Waldorf’s Trevor Button as high school basketball senior of the year.
Waldorf is a K-12 school in Chapel Hill.
The media outlet ran a poll for a week that included nominees who were ranked in MaxPreps among the top 20 statewide in points, rebounds, steals or assists.
Button earned more than 80 percent of the vote, finishing ahead of Orange’s Jerec Thompson, Research Triangles Anas Hasan and Thales Academy’s Nasir Bell.
Button, at the time the poll began, was the No. 2 scorer in North Carolina at 32 points per game.

Nasir Bell, Thales Academy, Rolesville: No. 4 scorer among NC seniors at 27.9 points per game.
Trevor Button, Emerson Waldorf, Chapel Hill: No. 2 in North Carolina among seniors in scoring at 32 points per game.
Logan Dukes, Cary Christian: No. 20 among NC seniors at 22.2 points per game.
Anas Hasan, Research Triangle: No. 10 in assists among NC seniors at 5.6 per game. He’s also No. 2 in steals among seniors (4.4 per game).
Joel Kasselie, Triangle Math & Science: No. 14 in NC among seniors in steals (3.5)
Barry Marrow, Research Triangle: No. 5 among NC seniors in steals (3.9)
Justin Monden, Heritage: No. 14 among NC seniors in scoring at 23.6 points per game.
Jerec Thompson, Orange: No. 9 among NC seniors at 24.5 points per game.
