Cary’s Zack Chavis, Gibbons Layce Chappell are N&O high school athletes of the week
Cary baseball player Zack Chavis and Cardinal Gibbons softball star Layce Chappell are the News & Observer high school athletes of the week.
Chavis, an Imps’ junior, went 3-for-4 with a grand slam home run, eight RBIs and two runs scored to lead Cary to a 12-0 win at Green Hope April 5.
The previous night, Chavis went 2-for-4 with a run scored in a 5-4 win over Millbrook.
Chavis is hitting .463 with a home run and 16 RBIs.
▪ Chappell, a freshman, went 3-for-4 with a triple, a home run and four RBI in a 15-6 win over Leesville Road April 4.
Chappell also went 2-for-2 with two home runs and three RBI in an 11-1 win over Cedar Ridge April 5.
The next night, she went 2-for-3 with a RBI in a 5-1 victory at Leesville Road.
Chappell is batting .524 with three home runs and 10 RBI for Cardinal Gibbons.
