Hillside High football shows off its offensive firepower in 43-28 win over Rolesville
Hillside showed off its multifaceted offense against Rolesville on Friday night and maintained its perfect record behind six touchdowns from four different players in a 43-28 win over the visiting Rams.
Hillside, of Durham, improved to 4-0 with the win. Jimmyll Williams found the end zone three times for the Hornets, all of them coming in an explosive second half that saw Hillside keep Rolesville at arm’s length despite the Rams’ stubborn insistence on making things close throughout the final frames.
The teams were all square at 7-7 through the first quarter, and the homestanding Hornets grabbed a one-touchdown lead at the half thanks to a Dez Smith run.
The fireworks started in the third quarter when the Hornets pulled ahead with a third touchdown, this one a pass from Wilson Kargbo to K.J. Johnson and a successful two-point conversion. Rolesville rebounded with a touchdown of its own to pull within eight at 22-14.
That’s when Williams took over. The speedster broke through the line for a touchdown midway through the third to reestablish the Hornets’ two-score advantage, and after a Rolesville rushing TD from Devon Thomas, Williams added another long run for another touchdown, his second of the half.
The Rams just would not go away, and only a couple of plays later, quarterback Braden Atkinson threw a pass to Ohio State commit Noah Rogers for a touchdown, again pulling Rolesville within shouting distance at 37-28 after a two-point conversion.
Williams’ third TD — a 51-yard scamper — put the game away.
