RALEIGH
For all of the offense on display Friday in an early-season litmus test for both Millbrook and Rolesville, it was a sequence for the Wildcats’ defense that swung the pivotal divisional showdown in their favor.
Early in the second quarter, Millbrook scored the first points of the game on a 20-yard run from Bryson Gray, and the Rolesville offense — a unit stacked with Division I talent — was starting to move the ball.
That was, until the Wildcats’ dynamic defensive duo did what it has been doing to offenses all season long: Junior Rashad Streets stripped the ball, and classmate Quinton Syphers scooped it up and scampered in for a touchdown, doubling Millbrook’s lead.

Millbrook added another rushing TD with about four minutes to play in the first half to extend its lead, and the Wildcats cruised from there to post a 28-7 win over Rolesville in the teams’ second Cap 8A contest of the season.
Despite the stout defensive effort from Millbrook, the Rams avoided the shutout when Kaleb Williams found Gavin Waddell for a passing touchdown midway through the third quarter.

Millbrook capped the scoring in the fourth quarter. After again stuffing Rolesville and turning the ball over on downs, receiver Taden Martin hauled in a pass for a touchdown with about five minutes to play. Ethan Luberecki drilled his fourth extra point of the night to push the scored to 28-7.
The Wildcats (5-0) continue their conference slate next week with a home game against Leesville Road. The Rams (2-3) will look to rebound with a home game against Broughton.
