Cannon School, Cary Academy dominate NCISAA indoor track championships

Cannon School’s girls and Cary Academy’s boys led the way with four victories each in the N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association’s indoor track and field championships on Monday.

Cannon’s girls won two relay events, while Elise Wrenholt and Christina Hall captured individual championships in the meet at the JDL Fast Track facilities in Winston-Salem.

Cary’s boys also won two relays, while Kavi Gibson and Miles Cash were individual winners.

Hall, a freshman, had an outstanding meet. In addition to winning the long jump, she ran anchor leg on the victorious 4-by-200 meter relay squad. Hall also placed third in the 55- and 300-meter dashes.

A trio of girls won two events each.

Metrolina Christian junior Kiri Campbell took the 300 meters and the 55-meter hurdles; Providence Day freshman Emma Adams took the high jump and triple jump; and distance specialist Bailey Brackett of Rabun Gap School won the 1600- and 3200-meter runs.

There were two double-winners in the boys’ competition, as Metrolina Christian junior Micah Crenshaw won the long jump and triple jump, and Charlotte Christian’s Joey Wynn took the high jump and 300 meters.

Division 2/3

Five athletes and teams from the Charlotte and Raleigh areas won events in the NCISAA’s Division 2/3 indoor track and field championships on Monday.

Davidson Day had a pair of winners in the boys’ events, with Elijah Copeny winning the 500-meter run and Edward Haponik winning the 1,000-meter run.

In the girls’ competition, Raleigh’s GRACE Academy had winners in the 1600 meters (Elise Armstrong), shot put (Sydney Lloyd), and in the 4-by-800 meter relay.
