Wake Forest continued an impressive streak Monday in a 50-7 win at Broughton.

The Cougars (5-0, 1-0 Cap-8 4A) have outscored teams 95-0 during the first quarter. On Monday, Wake Forest was ahead 27-0 after one quarter against the Caps (0-5, 0-1).

Wake Forest scored early and often, including a trio of 70-plus-yard touchdowns – 71-yard runs by Devon Lawrence and Shy’heem Mitchell and a 76-yard interception by Javonte Terry.

Bunn 77, Nash Central 37: Bunn (4-2) wrapped up nonconference play with a thumping of host 3A Nash Central (1-5). The 2A Wildcats’ losses came to 3A teams by a combined nine points.

Tevin Perry paced the Wildcats by rushing for a career-high 263 yards on 16 carries. As a team, Bunn accumulated 586 total yards. But the score was 23-23 before Bunn went ahead for good on a Davante Caldwell 2-yard run with 4 minutes, 48 seconds left before halftime. Bunn eclipsed the 70-point mark for the second time this season.

Cedar Ridge 21, Chapel Hill 19: Tyrek Jennings returned a blocked punt 8 yards for a touchdown with 7:56 remaining as Cedar Ridge (3-3, 1-0 Big 8 3A) rallied from 13 points down to defeat Chapel Hill at a rainy Culton-Peerman Stadium in the conference opener for both.

Marquez Hunter put the Red Wolves ahead with a 47-yard catch-and-run off a pass from quarterback Peyton Pappas.

The Tigers (3-3, 0-1), who outgained Cedar Ridge 263-88 in the first half, committed three turnovers during the second half. Ricki McDowell finished with 104 yards on 22 carries.

Fike 43, Corinth Holders 21: The Golden Demons used a punishing rushing attack to deal Corinth Holders its first defeat of the season.

A.J. Hines rushed for 120 yards on just 11 carries, finding the end zone three times on the ground and once more in the air to improve Fike to 4-2 on the season.

The Pirates, 5-1 heading into their bye week, hadn’t allowed more than 21 points in a game all season but found themselves down 21-0 just two minutes into the second quarter. Howard Watson led Corinth Holders with 125 yards rushing and a score, and Kaelin O’Neal tossed a pair of touchdown passes to account for the Pirates’ points.

Granville Central 7, Franklinton 6: The 1A Panthers (3-2) broke through a scoreless tie at halftime to topple 2A Franklinton (3-2) on the road.

Granville Central’s do-it-all senior quarterback, Jay Parker, rushed for 109 yards and threw for 121. His 1-yard run with 9:59 left held up as the game-winner.

Hillside 54, East Chapel Hill 0: The Hornets (3-2, 1-0 PAC-6 4A) jumped to a 26-0 halftime lead and rolled past East Chapel Hill (1-5, 0-1) in the conference opener for both. Sophomore Jamal Currie-Elliott rushed for 167 yards and three touchdowns.

The Hornets’ leading rusher, senior Abdul Adams, was sitting out, but the offense did not miss a beat.

The Hornets held the Wildcats to just 49 total yards. East Chapel Hill quarterback Brater Gerber missed the game with a concussion.

Wakefield 33, Sanderson 14: Wakefield (4-1, 1-0 Cap-8 4A) secured its fourth straight win after defeating Sanderson. The Wolverines opened the scoring just 24 seconds in when Matt McKay connected with Marius Cooper for a 72-yard catch-and-run, the first of three touchdowns between the duo.

Sanderson (1-4, 0-1) cut the deficit to 24-14 in the fourth quarter after Justin Dunn completed two touchdown passes within a span of 84 seconds, but a safety and a fumble recovery in the end zone late held off the Spartans rally.

Postponed and cancelled: Garner and East Wake’s Greater Neuse River 4A showdown was moved to Thursday, Oct. 15. Both teams have bye weeks scheduled that week. Rolesville and Knightdale had made the same decision with their meeting that was scheduled for this past Friday.
