Leesville Road sloshes past Broughton football
Cooper Eason-Riddle ran for two touchdowns and threw for another in his second start at quarterback as Leesville Road sloshed past Broughton 24-7 at Hamilton Stadium on Thursday night.
Playing in a steady rain, the Pride (3-3, 2-0 Cap-8 4A) overcame an early deficit to dominate the Capitals. And after a 1-3 start to the season, Leesville Road is unbeaten in the conference.
“It’s a good start,” Eason-Riddle said. “We started off rough, 1-3, and then we hit conference 2-0. That’s what matters, conference, and this gives us a shot at winning it.”
Eason-Riddle, starting in place of the injured Clay Vick, ran for scores of 12 and 8 yards and threw 63 yards for another touchdown.
“He played well, made some big throws and had some crucial runs,” Leesville Road coach Brad Wilson said.
Broughton (0-6, 0-2) led 7-3 in the first quarter but struggled on offense, swapping quarterbacks Owen Wilkinson and Cliff Chavis liberally in the second half.
Turning point
With Leesville Road ahead 10-7 early in the second quarter, Broughton failed on fourth down in Pride territory. Eason-Riddle then launched a long pass to Jordan Moore, who hauled it in for a 63-yard touchdown.
They said it
“I feel bad for their grounds crew, the mess they’ve got to clean up,” Broughton coach Billy Lane said of the sloppy field.
