Prep roundup: Broughton-Leesville showdown up next in volleyball

An exciting night of N.C. High School Athletic Association volleyball playoff action netted a few familiar matchups to look forward to on Thursday.

On Tuesday, Broughton (21-0) downed Apex and Leesville Road (18-2) upended D.H. Conley, each by 3-0 scores, to set up a third meeting on Thursday. Leesville’s only two losses came to Broughton.

Triton (17-8) will square off against Cleveland (22-3), a team in which it split its head-to-head meetings.

Moving on

4A: No. 1 Broughton faces No. 9 Leesville Road on Thursday, No. 5 Cardinal Gibbons goes to No. 4 Jack Britt, No. 10 Fuquay-Varina travels to No. 2 J.H. Rose and No. 6 Panther Creek hosts No. 14 New Bern.

3A: No. 19 Triton at No. 11 Cleveland, No. 1 Cedar Ridge hosts No. 8 Topsail, No. 13 Lee County hosts No. 21 Orange.

2A: No. 1 Carrboro hosts No. 8 Croatan, No. 2 South Granville hosts No. 10 First Flight.

1A: No. 1 Roxboro Community will host No. 9 Perquimans, No. 3 Princeton hosts No. 6 Wallace-Rose Hill and No. 4 Louisburg hosts No. 5 Williamston Riverside. No. 10 Franklin Academy will host No. 15 Voyager Academy.

4A: No. 16 Apex (fell 3-0 at Broughton), No. 13 East Wake (3-1 at Jack Britt), No. 18 Heritage (3-1 at J.H. Rose), No. 22 Green Hope (3-2 at Panther Creek), No. 26 Person (3-0 at Fuquay-Varina).

3A: No. 7 Corinth Holders (3-1 to Southwestern Randolph).

2A: No. 19 Franklinton (3-0 at North Lenior).

1A: No. 14 Granville Central (3-0 at Princeton).

1A/2A girls golf

Newport’s Croatan High won the NCHSAA 1A/2A girls golf state championships, while Salisbury’s Grace Yatawara won the individual title on Tuesday at Longleaf Golf & Family Club in Southern Pines.

Franklin Academy’s Sara Allen was 22nd and Erin Walsh 44th as the Patriots finished tied for seventh as a team. North Johnston was 11th.

Carrboro junior Megahan McPeak tied for 13th with a 27-over-par. East Wake Academy junior Caitlyn Seastrunk made noise on Monday with a hole-in-one on a par-3 No. 6 and finished 48th.

Voyager Academy senior Peyton Henderson was 40th.

NCISAA golf

Ravencroft was fifth and North Raleigh Christian seventh at the N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association girls golf championships at the Country Club of Salisbury.
