Prep notebook: Leesville Road wins Cap-8 boys soccer title

Leesville Road’s fast finish to the regular season clinched its first Cap-8 boys soccer title since 2010. The Pride played four times in five school nights – Wednesday, Thursday, Monday and Tuesday – and won all four.

“We went from three games back to winning the conference outright,” coach Paul Dinkenor said.

Leesville (13-3-1, 10-2-1) wraps up its regular season Thursday at Wakefield.

The N.C. High School Athletic Association boys soccer playoffs begin next week. The brackets will be released Monday.

Apex clinched the Southwest Wake Athletic Conference title by virtue of Middle Creek’s loss to Green Hope earlier this week. Cardinal Gibbons’ 3-0 win at East Chapel Hill on Monday wrapped up the PAC-6.

Other conference champs include: Chapel Hill (Big 8 3A), Lee County (Cape Fear Valley 3A), N.C. Science and Math (Northern Carolina 2A) and Franklin Academy (North Central 1A). Lee will host the Cape Fear Valley Conference tournament championship on Thursday.
