Millbrook continues football streak against Sanderson
Millbrook continued its domination of Cap-8 rival Sanderson with an impressive 38-7 victory on Friday at Catapano Field.
The Wildcats (8-3, 5-2 Cap-8) have won nine in a row against the Spartans in one of the longest-running rivalries in the area. Millbrook heads into the 4A playoffs with three consecutive victories.
“A lot of our young guys on defense have grown up in the last two or three weeks, and we’re playing better there, Wildcats coach Clarence Inscore said. We’ve got a balanced attack on offense. I’m real excited about where the team’s headed, and I want to see us keep progressing.”
Sanderson (4-7, 3-4) was trying to keep its playoff hopes alive, but turnovers doomed the Spartans.
“Huge disappointment,” Sanderson coach Ben Kolstad said. up really well. We played really well last week against Wake Forest and we thought it was going to be a dogfight for a playoff spot tonight. Really disappointed how it turned out.”
Turning point
After a punt hit Millbrook’s Nic Vinson and was recovered by the Spartans’ Austin Lane at the Wildcat 18-yard line, Sanderson moved to within inches of the goal line, trying to tie the game 7-7. But Jordan Logan fumbled short of the goal, and Jayden Pauling scooped it up and returned it 65 yards. Millbrook then punched it in on a 3-yard TD run by Larry Roundtree for a 14-0 lead.
