Southwest Wake Athletic all-conference volleyball team, 2015

The top honors in Southwest Wake Athletic Conference volleyball went to individuals on the top two teams. Panther Creek coach Holly Fong and Fuquay-Varina coach Jeff Pagel were co-coaches of the year, as voted on by their peers.

Panther Creek senior middle blocker Caitlyn Della, a Wake Forest recruit, earned player of the year honors with 290 kills and 56 blocks.

Panther Creek (19-5, 14-2), which won its first conference championship and won a playoff game for the first time, also had Emily Maggio (263 digs) on the first team and Alani Alderman (375 assists) on second team.

Twins Morgan and Maddie Sonnendecker of Fuquay-Varina (20-4, 13-3) were each first team all-conference. Morgan had 305 kills while Maddie had 237. The Bengals fell in the third round of the postseason, the farthest the Bengals have ever advanced in the playoffs.

Apex (16-7, 12-4) tied Panther Creek with three selections, landing Western Carolina recruit Abigail Veit (345 kills, 267 digs) on first team and Sunday Peoples (810 assists) and Alyssa Hansen (74 blocks) on second team. The Cougars exited the second round of the postseason, falling to No. 1 seed Broughton.

Green Hope (15-8, 11-5), which made it to the second round of the playoffs before bowing out 3-2 to Panther Creek, had senior Allison O’Connor on the first team and Abby Kott on second team.

Athens Drive (12-8, 10-6), which made it to the first round of the playoffs, placed Allison Lake onto the first team and Sydney Yount on the second team.

Maylnn Clark (156 blocks, 157 kills) of Holly Springs (9-12, 6-10) was on the second team as was Emily Durham (216 kills, 190 digs) of Middle Creek (9-15, 4-12).

Apex Friendship (1-15, 1-15) and Cary (2-18, 1-15), which tied for last, did not have a player named to either team.

Della and Morgan Sonnendecker each made the team for a second consecutive time. Maddie Sonnendecker and O’Connor ended their careers as the three-time all-conference picks.
