Riverside stays at front of PAC-6 boys basketball race as it rallies by Jordan
Isaiah Reddish scored 19 points Tuesday night to lead Riverside in a 63-54 win against Jordan in PAC-6 basketball.
The win for Riverside (11-4 overall, 4-0 PAC-6), which is the only team undefeated in PAC-6 games, kept the Pirates one-half game ahead of Northern Durham (11-2, 4-1) in the conference standings.
Northern, winner of seven in its last eight games, defeated East Chapel Hill 62-56 at home Tuesday to bounce back from the Knights’ five-point loss in the finals of the South Granville Holiday Invitational.
Jordan dropped to 11-4, 3-2 PAC-6, with its second loss in three games. Tuesday’s loss left Jordan alone for now in third place in the PAC-6, one-half game in front of East Chapel Hill (11-2, 2-2) and Cardinal Gibbons (5-8, 2-2).
Jordan jumped to an early 17-13 lead Tuesday at Riverside and was still ahead 31-28 at the half before the Pirates stepped up on defense. Riverside used a 13-8 run in the third quarter to take the lead and pulled away with a 22-15 fourth quarter.
Jaleel Stewart hit two of three 3-point tries on his way to 12 points for Riverside, and Pirate teammate Anthony Peak added 11 points. Stewart was a perfect 4-for-4 at the free throw line, while Reddish shot 4-for-5 at the free throw line and 7-of-13 from the field.
Friday, Jordan is scheduled to host struggling Hillside (1-13, 0-4), while Riverside is slated to play at Roxboro Person (6-9, 0-4).
Northern is scheduled to have Friday off.
