Carrboro drops out of first place in Mid-State girls basketball

Carrboro’s girls basketball team lost two straight road games in three days last week – 59-38 at Jordan-Matthews and 47-25 at Reidsville – and fell out of first place in the Mid-State 2A Conference standings.

Carrboro led a see-saw game Tuesday at Jordan-Matthews as late as the start of the third quarter, when Kate Wood nailed a 3-pointer for a 26-25 Jaguar lead, but the Jets then reeled off a 12-0 run and never again let Carrboro with 9 points.

Thursday at Reidsville, Carrboro had trouble preventing Teisha Richardson from getting 18 points and 12 rebounds, plus 5 assists, 3 steals and 2 blocks -- all team highs for Reidsville, which took over first place in the Mid-State at 6-1 in conference games, 8-11 overall.

Carrboro (7-11, 5-2) dropped into second place, still two games ahead of Bartlett Yancey in the win column as the Jaguars prepped for a Friday night game at home against Graham.
